Microsoft's Project xCloud streaming service could have a big impact on the Xbox Two.

Project xCloud is Microsoft's new cloud-based streaming service being trialled in 2019.

The service will give gaming fans the option to stream games from the cloud on any device.

While this isn't necessarily a new prospect, Microsoft believes the technology is now in a place for cloud gaming to thrive.

And in a new post on Business Insider, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has dropped a hint about how the technology could be used to benefit the Xbox Two.

"We describe it as, shorthand, 'Netflix for games'," Nadella explained. "We have as much a shot to build a subscription service as anybody else."

“We have a huge back catalogue, which is we have our own games," he said, using the likes of Halo and Forza as examples.

“We have a structural position in that we have both a console business as well as a PC business, which happens to be bigger than the console business when it comes to gaming.”

Nadella's comments suggest that the Xbox Two could use this technology in place of backwards compatibility.

It would be an extension of Microsoft's Xbox Games Pass service, which lets subscribers access over 100 games for a monthly fee.

The difference is, the games are available to download and not streamed.

The Xbox Games Pass gaming lineup includes new and upcoming releases like Forza Horizon 4 and Crackdown 3, as well as Xbox classics like Gears of War.
